Personal statement 

Diavione Johnson

       In the seventh grade, I was asked the question of what I wanted to do with my life after I graduated high school. At that time, I thought I knew what I wanted, but for some reason I was unable to truthfully answer that question. I spent eight years with a dream of becoming a veterinarian at North Carolina State University and now that I am older, that dream has transitioned into something I never would have imagined. If I went back in time and told myself what my goals are now, I’m almost positive that my past self would laugh in my face and object. My dream has changed, I have set my goal, and this graduate school exposure tour program will help me to excel.

       I am now a senior at North Carolina Central University. My major is art with a concentration in visual communications and I am doing great in my studies. I ended up in this spot after coming to the realization that I loved animals, but studying veterinary medicine was not my calling. I am terrified of bugs and proceeding on the path I was on did not feel right to me. When I entered the ninth grade, I realized how much I really loved to draw and how I was really good at doing it too. I had already had my work displayed at the credit union and created many different works of art for clients by the twelfth grade. Four years studying art and in the middle I have a revelation. I love photography more than anything! It’s something I love to do regardless of the prices and everything else! 

        Five years from now, I have a goal to be in good financial standings with my career and have the ability to travel the world as I please. I have been preparing my whole life to be able to travel and see the world as it is. I have always wished to live my life to the fullest and see a lot of what God created and calls beautiful. I know now that I am older, that I want to be successful as either an animator and graphic designer and work as both an entrepreneur and in the entertainment business. It is my aim to become an expert on the topic of photoshop so that I am able to help customers in creating visual art to represent their businesses and events. By working hard now and studying as hard as I can, I know that I will accomplish my goal. I may not be able to accomplish it easily, but I will work through all the obstacles I come across to get to the point I want to be.

             I can contribute my positive personality and optimism to the world around me. I am a very committed individual that will work my hardest to capture so many of the beautys of this world. I will achieve my mission by involving myself and doing whatever I need to do in order to succeed. To make the most of the experience I will engage, share, and acquire as much information as I can.
